My flight to Disney and a new portfolio

Flying to Disney

flying.jpgIf you read my last post, you might remember my daughter and I were flying to Disney. Both being first-time flyers, I was quite nervous. The morning of the trip, my husband dropped us off at the bus stop where we were taking a school bus to Buffalo and flying out of the Buffalo Airport. I remember almost feeling angry. I was irritated with myself for both being nervous (I mean…flying is the safest method of travel, right?) and making myself do something I really didn’t want to do! And at the same time…did. I really did. Really. I wanted to get over the fear of flying so I could entertain the idea of being able to go anywhere in the world I wanted to go. I have dreams, places I want to visit…always have and always will. And part of making dreams a reality is punching fear in the face.

I remember sitting on the plane ready for take off, the door closed and I thought, “Oh my God, I’m going to have a panic attack.” Then I thought…”No, no, you’re not. You are fine. You prepared for this and you know what to do.” I put my headphones in and went into my Fly Without Fear Meditations album on iTunes and began listening to the Fearless Take Off recording. I can’t express how much listening to that series of calming, instructive meditations helped during my flight. The take-off lasted longer than I imagined (I had to listen to that recording twice) but once we were in the air and flying straight for Florida, I soon realized I was pretty darn calm. After the Take Off Mediation, I listened to the Tension Release Meditation. This is where the speaker walks you through tightening certain muscle groups in your body and then releasing them. I listened a couple of times consecutively to relax myself and afterward, I was able to sit calmly. Occasionally I would peek over at my daughter and her friend who were ogling over the clouds and the mysterious land forms. I brought myself to glance out a couple of times and it was indescribably beautiful. I was so excited that I was in the sky! I was going places!

Obviously, we landed safely and got to spend the next 6 days in Disney. If you’ve never been to Disney World, you really should go. At least once.

Stitch and JodiI’ll be honest and say, my biggest intention of going was so I could be there if my daughter needed me. But I found Disney to be, just…magical. It was so much more inspiring and amazing than I ever would have thought. One thing I know for sure, is the next time we go, the whole family is going!

So…I know, Disney was three weeks ago so what has taken me so long to get back to you all?! I’m so sorry for the delay but I’ve been working on my online portfolio. I am a photographer and an artist and I need a place online to display all the beautiful things I create. So, you can now check out my work at www.jodilherman.com. Let me know what you think! It’s brand new so I’m open for suggestions and would appreciate any feedback you can give!

Some of the other things I’ve been doing? When we returned from Disney, my amazing husband surprised me with a set of kayaks!

If you didn’t get a chance to read the previous post describing my fear of flying, you can do that here. If you or anyone you know has a fear of flying, share that page with them. It may just be the thing they need to make all their dreams come true! 😉

Until next time….
